Dangers of the Hoverboard

The new transportation system that has improved technology and made life more fun and interesting is the hover board. It is a personal transportation skateboard without wheels. It is proven that if you do not have a strong core, it is very difficult to ride.

What can possibly be wrong about this new piece of technology? Well, recently a home in Louisiana was set on fire due to the board. It had been charging when it caught flames and destroyed their home.

Due to it being difficult to ride, many injuries have occurred. Becoming a pro at riding the board, is a matter of practice. So, a first timer’s ride is difficult and can often results in an injury.

Consumer Product Safety Commission said they had received 8 emergency phone calls in the last 3 months regarding these injuries.

Additional to the cost of the board itself, ($300-$600) helmets are definitely recommended and a good protective headgear costs around $40.

Stepping over the front of the board to get off, seems to be the easiest yet most dangerous.

“To get off the board, I step forward. At first I found it difficult but later on it got easier,” says owner of a board Joshua Calvillo.

Page 3 of the hoverboard rules and guidelines says,” No matter when and where, there is a possibility you may crash, fall off, lose control, etc., causing injury.” The makers are well aware of the possible consequences, but like anything else, you are buying at your own risk

The board cannot be returned if signs of use are shown. Therefore, if you result in injuries and want to return it, you cannot.

Areas like the ankle, tailbone, and back are the most common areas affected by injuries.

The country is trying to put an end to obesity although, inventions like the hoverboard are what makes us lazier. It has gotten to the point to where someone will ride from the couch to the refrigerator on the board to not even have to walk.

Although this is the new trend, we may ask ourselves, is it worth the price and/ or the risk?

To think about things more in depth, not only are you spending money on the board itself and a helmet, you are also in charge of injury bills that can so much as include, in some cases may result in an urgent trip to the emergency room.

The hoverboard overall is a quite expensive and dangerous piece of technology that can lead to serious injuries.

Buyers must think twice when purchasing a board. But they are buying at their own risk.
