Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Back in 2012 Disney made the gutsy decision to buy Lucasfilm’s Star Wars franchise. The 4 billion dollar investment was a small price to pay considering the overwhelming ticket sales they have earned from just one movie alone.
The movie takes place thirty years after episode six, Return of the Jedi. There is a perfect mix of new characters and returning old characters. The familiar faces include Han Solo, Princess Leia, R2D2, C3PO, and Luke Skywalker.
JJ Abrams, the director of The Force Awakens, had the daunting task of pleasing the millions of Star Wars fans across the world with this new film. Although there are still some fans that are disappointed in the movie, the majority of the fans are very pleased with Abrams’ hard work. The movie scored a shocking 93 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.
Even though there was much pressure on JJ Abrams to deliver a movie worthy of the Star Wars franchise, he was mostly excited about the opportunity. He, like many of the workers on set, was a fan of Star Wars.
Abrams stated, “It is, without question, and intense and terrifying prospect… The opportunity, I think, is greater than fear, greater than risk. I’m more excited about the work that everyone has done in the movie and the incredible cast.”
Unfortunately, the next film, which is set to be released May 26 of next year, will be directed by Rian Johnson. There is much uneasiness about this switch in directors but Disney feels he is the right man to replace Abrams.
Even though the movie has only been in theaters for under a month, it has made 1.75 billion in box office. It made one billion in just twelve days and over 700 million fourteen days later.
This new awakening has reignited old Star Wars fans and created a whole new generation of fans as well. The movie’s profits continue to rise, along with the fans expectations for an even better sequel movie. They can only hope that Rian Johnson will live up to the fans expectations. May the force be with him.
