It has been about ten years since the airing of the first original High School Musical (January 20, 2006.) When producing the movie, the film was not expected to explode with popularity, however, within the first year of the movie’s release, the film was viewed 7.7 million times and became “the most successful film that Disney Channel Original Movie ever produced.” Since the release, Disney has produced 2 other sequels to the movie, High School Musical 2 and High School Musical 3: Senior Year.

On January 20th, exactly ten years after the release of the first film, Disney put on a special airing of the movie with the cast reunited together for the anniversary.

The cast stars, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Corbin Bleu, Lucas Grabeel, and Monique Coleman all joined to celebrate this special night with their fans and watch the first movie together, and post photos reliving their memories in the Wildcat’s gym.

Many fans were let down when they found out that the movies’ heartthrob, Zac Efron (Troy Bolton), did not attend. It was thought that the reason for this was because he didn’t want to face his ex girlfriend, Vanessa Hudgens, but Efron never confirmed. However, the very busy actor did send in a prerecorded video message to the fans and cast to apologize for not being able to make it to the reunion. He let everyone know how appreciative he is and that this production was “one of the coolest things he’s ever been a part of.”

Throughout the night the cast shared their favorite memories and throwbacks and discussed how much of a legacy the film has become.

It was all fun and laughs until the cast brought out the emotional sides of each other when bringing gifts to surprise the others with.

One of the sweetest moments was when Monique found and showed the cast their old audition tapes. While rejoicing their past years, their reactions to the clips were hilarious and they all agreed that they killed their auditions and everyone brought some sort of truly unique acting style to the table.

The cast was also surprised with their very own class rings from the movie, which they showed off in their social media posts. Along with that, Corbin Bleu was given a framed version of his old basketball jersey from the movie.

Since the movies have been made, the cast has all majorly grown up and done many new projects of their own. Efron has taken on several roles in popular movies such as “Neighbors” and “The Lucky One.” Hudgens worked on secret projects that have yet to be revealed. Tisdale got married to her fiancé of 13 months. Despite this, they will always still be “all in this together” and be wildcats forever.
