After all the drama that lead up to the 88th Academy Awards, the night was truly a grand success.

Even after the boycott, by several actors, the Academy Awards were a success with a long awaited victory for some and a day of disappointment for others.

Spotlight won two awards for the night, which were writing and best picture. The film focused on was based on an incident in 2001 when a team of journalists investigated over 80 accusations of molestation by a priest of a Roman Catholic Church.

Mad Max: Fury Road who took home an outstanding number of six Oscars some of which include sound mixing, sound editing, production design, makeup and hairstyling, film editing, and costume design. In the movie something irreplaceable is taken and enraged warlord marshals and his gang pursue a road war.

Best visual effects went to Ex Machina based on the beautiful robot Ava who is more self-aware and deceptive than her creators Caleb Smith and Nathan Bateman could’ve imagined.

Short film (live action) went to Stutterer. While short film (animated) went to Bear Story. Music (original song) went to Writing on the Wall from Spectre, and for music (original score) The Hateful Eight.

The Revenant took two awards for the night which include best directing and cinematography. The Revenant is about a man named Hugh Glass who during a hunting trip, is left for dead and has to use his survival skills to find his way back to his family.

Best animated feature film was the film that made everyone look back and think of any forgotten memories, was Inside Out. Riley is kept generally happy because of her emotions Joy, Anger, Disgust, Fear, and Sadness. However when Sadness and Joy are lost, the rest of Riley’s emotions must help her through a difficult move until Sadness and Joy return to headquarters.

From best supporting actress was Alicia Vikander for her performance in The Danish Girl in which Gerda (Vikander) prepares her husband to undergo one of the first sex-change operations.

Best supporting actor winner was Mark Rylance for Bridge of Spies. Rylance plays Rudolf Abel, whose lawyer James Donovan (Tom Hanks) must defend in court.

Best actress in a leading role went to Brie Larson for Room. Larson plays mother of

5 year-old who has been held captive and finally gain freedom, allowing him to experience the outside world for the first time.

Best actor in a leading role, was finally won by Leonardo DiCaprio, after many years of fan outrage and jokes, for his outstanding role in The Revenant.
