The debut of the Divergent series by Veronica Roth has left readers astonished by the futuristic world and her courageous characters. It was a must for directors to bring the book series onto the screen.

On March 21 of 2014, the director Robert Schwentke brought Divergent to IMAX. He brought to life the corrupted utopian society and it left many hanging.

The story narrates about our world destroyed after a chaotic war. The human population has decreased drastically, making the few survivors fortunate. The society has changed completely as well. The people are governed in a new way; they are classified in a specific group based on their personality.

There are five groups, also known as factions, they are eligible to be in. The intelligent minds go to Erudite. The ones who believed in peace and kindness are sent to Amity.

Abnegation are for the ones who aren’t selfless, they live with the basic necessities to survive. They are usually found dressed in plain gray outfits. Finally, for the brave souls is Dauntless. They are in charge of guarding the city and making sure no one leaves. Dauntless are also known for their rebellious and adventurous personality, no one dares to do what they do.

Tris (Beatrice) Prior is about to change everything unexpectedly with life changing decisions along with other friends at her side. Before she knows it, next to Four (Tobias Eaton) her dauntless trainer, she has started a war of eliminating the factions.

Divergent fans were left hanging and it didn’t take long for the sequel to be released. A year later Insurgent came out. It took place catching up with what has occurred so far with Tris and Four.

Their home was invaded by the ambitious Janine who was planning no good. The heroic main characters are supposed to fight for what is right. It’s a journey filled with ups and downs, leaving jaws dropped.

Tris managed to get rid of Janine and she revealed the truth that was masked from the society.  Patience was the only answer, patience for any rumors from the actors or the directors.

As many waited desperately for news about the third part of the series to come out , they finally received on what they’ve been waiting for.

It was confirmed that the third movie of the Divergent series, Allegiant, would be out on March 18, 2016. The cast were back on track into filming it. The main actors such as Shailene Woodley, Theo James and Ansel Elgort shared sneak peaks on social media through Snapchat.

Anxiously awaiting, the moment finally came.

Evalyn, who also happens to be Four’s mother, tales on herself the responsibility of taking the society in her own hands. At first it seems the best solution but after Tris realizes all of her plans it reminded her of her old corrupted leaders. Tris as she was destined to do, prepares to up against anything for what she loves.

Tris is determined to go beyond the wall that protects her home from the toxic outer world with or without her friends. Rour and the others couldn’t allow her to do that on her own went with her, they planned out everything discretely. Though trouble came and they nearly captured from escaping, they achieved to make it to the other side.

Across the intoxicated land they went and the characters began to doubt if there was actually anything out there that may help them restore their home and society.       As their hope began vanishing away, the unexpected came. There were more humans out there; they were hidden invisible bubble like wall that can only be opened by a special identification card. They were the founders of everything.

It seemed that they finally found the good behind all of this, Tris was sure that they were the answer to everything.  She was certain that with their help, a better future may after come. Paranoid by Four’s doubts and her surroundings, Tris does what she thinks and sounds right but not everything that people say is true.

Now it’s all up to four to figure things out. They are all in for the same disastrous ride as before. Will they be able to make things right this time?

As the lights dimmed in the movie theater, the audience clapped pleased with what the saw but now all seemed happy. According to the Hollywood reporter, critics were not as fond of it.

Ariana Bacle from Entertainment Weekly said,

“Toward the end, Tris delivers a heavy-handed monologue on the importance of equality that fails to resonate despite Woodley’s charming, gentle performance as a young woman doing her best to save an entire population. It’s a forced injection of topicality that doesn’t inspire the powerful effect it wants to — an apt sentiment for the film as a whole, really. Allegiant aches to be a thought-provoking, moving allegory of the current world. Instead, it’s an unwieldy two hours too unintentionally silly to validate how seriously it takes itself.”

Many other critics were unhappy with they way it was produced or how the whole thing played out.

Peter Debruge from Variety stated,
“Although Allegiant does recapture the original film’s sense of constantly discovering and adapting to fresh information, audiences no longer identify with anyone in particular. For those who thrilled at the idea that she was somehow special, Tris has been pushed aside, while Four goes out on dangerous missions to ‘the Fringe,’ visiting tent cities where David abducts children for purposes the movie never satisfyingly explains.”

The list goes on of very negative comments over the criteria. No words have been heard yet from the director on this topic but it still may not be the end of Divergent. Those who have read the books are anxious to see how the director’s visualized Roth’s plot twist. So then again, fans are looking carefully for any news to be let out.
