Luke Cage Review

Adrian Rodriguez (12th), Reporter

The Netflix original series of Luke Cage premiered on September 30, 2016.  For those who kept up on their superhero series on Netflix, Cage is no stranger. Fans first met Cage in the other Netflix original series Jessica Jones. These two have one thing in common, they both got their powers in horrible accidents, but they are not the only ones who have gotten superpowers.

To many people that these two encounter, their powers are a blessing, however both characters wish they never had received them. Jones had been in the car with her family while they argued. Suddenly their vehicle crashed into an eighteen wheeler. When Jones had finally awakened, she was the only survivor and she soon found out about her super strength when she tries taking out her anger.

On the other hand, Cage had been wrongly framed into prison by his stepbrother for heroin possession. While being at Seagate prison, he was chosen as a part of an experiment, the same one that turned Steve Rogers into Captain America. The results gave him increased strength, healing capability, and indestructible skin.

In Jessica Jones, the two meet when Jones goes into the bar in where Cage is a bartender. The two would go on to have many intimate encounters. Cage would soon find out Jones was the one who was mind controlled by Kilgrave to kill his ex girlfriend Reva Connors.

Cage would on to help Jones find and stop Kilgrave but, then leaves as he states he needs to be by himself and go somewhere else. From this moment on, fans called for a continuation of Cage. They’re voices were quickly responded to as filming started in September 2015 and ended in March 2016.

The series starts off with where Cage is currently located and what he was doing with his life. As a custodian for the local barber shop named Pop’s, he would put to wash and dry small towels, clean up after every haircut, and make sure the windows were spot free. The only one who knew about his powers, owner Henry “Pop” Hunter, encouraged him to do good and help out those in need.

Cage goes to fight many criminals who worked for Cornelius “Cottonmouth” Stokes. Stokes would later on be succeeded after his cousin Mariah Dillard, local corrupt councilwoman. These two would work for Willis “Diamondback” Stryker, Cage’s step brother whose goal is to end Cage’s life, and end his story.
