The Return of TVD, Back for its Final Season
November 7, 2016
Beware spoiler alerts ahead for Season 8
The Vampire Diaries ( or TVD) is very well known for its ability to get its audience to sink their teeth into the series that has since aired on September 10, 2009. Since then it has been a hit American supernatural drama series on The CW Channel for almost 8 years now and is now back for its eighth and final season.
The Vampire Diaries is originally a book series by author L.T. Smith that has now been turned into a television series directed by Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec.
The series is set in the fictional town of Mystic Falls, Virginia, a town charged with supernatural history since its settlement of migrants from New England in the late 19th century. It follows the life of Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev), a teenage girl who has just lost both parents in a car accident, as she falls in love with an 162-year-old vampire named Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley).
Their relationship becomes complicated as Stefan’s mysterious older brother Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) returns, with a plan to bring back their past lover Katherine Pierce, a vampire who looks exactly like Elena.
Although Damon is the villain and harbors a grudge against his brother for forcing him to become a vampire, he later reconciles with Stefan and falls in love with Elena, creating a love triangle among the three.
Both brothers protect Elena as they face various villains and threats to their town, including Katherine. The brothers’ history and the town’s mythology are revealed through flashbacks as the series goes on.
On episode one of season eight “Hello Brother” TVD revealed their new villain in the premiere.
Though the CW drama gave a little bit of information about the creature, there are some other things you should know, especially if you aren’t up to date on the history of Greek mythology. Sybil (the new villain of Mystic Falls) played by Nathalie Kelley, is a siren who is controlling Damon and Enzo. Until’ further more information, a little background on the mythical creature might just come in handy later on this season to help us comprehend just a little more of what’s actually going on in Mystics Falls now.
Like the viewers already had heard the Sybil’s (siren) song at the end of the premiere episode, but to justify what the song was actually used for, it’s clear that the song would be used to lure men in. Once they heard the song, the men would be under a siren’s control.
Using the men they control as minions is definitely a “Vampire Diaries” twist. Typically, they attract their own victims who die shortly after meeting the sirens.
It still isn’t clear just how much “The Vampire Diaries” will take from this mythology and how much the writers will create within the season. However, it’s obvious that Sybil (the siren) is just as evil than the myths about her. It seems like audiences will watch her manipulate the vampires even more in an unpredictable way in the upcoming Season 8 episodes.
So with that being said, do not miss out on the very new season yet sadly the last of TVD on The CW Channel on Friday 8|7c. If so interested and don’t know how to catch up on the last seven seasons. The latest season has just now arrived on Netflix as followed with the six seasons before that.
