The 69th Primetime Emmys Awards was held on September 17, 2017 and showcased the the best actors/actresses in the U.S. primetime television programmes. The host, Stephen Colbert, awarded each Emmy awards winner at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, CA. The Emmys was broadcasted on CBS internationally for the world to view.

To begin the night, Donald Trump was used as the subject. After months of presidential tweets, the Emmys regarded plentiful president references. The jokes were lighthearted, raw, and tense but were only implied as satirical way- he was used a subject rather than a target.

Everyone around the world was shocked as the results were very unexpected!

Several popular shows that originated from Netflix, such as  Stranger Things, House of Cards, and Better Call Saul, were nominated for “Most Outstanding Drama Series.” However, in the end, the Handmaid’s Tale received this award. Many people were astonished as they did not expect this television show to win- many believed Stranger Things would prevail.

Another popular award was “Outstanding Reality- Competition Program” as the nominees were The Voice, Top Chef, and The Amazing Race. The Voice was chosen as the winner and took home the award.

One of the highlights of the night during the Emmy Awards was Donald Glover, mainly known as Childish Gambino. He was nominated for the “Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series” and became the second African- American to win this Emmy award. However, this was not the only successful part of Donalds night- he has more to come! Donald set the bar for African Americans as he took home an award for “Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series” for his film, Atlanta.

Speaking of setting the bar for Emmy awards, Riz Ahmed was a highlight of the night as well. He shined the most during his triumphal moment as he was awarded  “Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movies”  in The Night Of . He was the first Asian and Muslim man to ever win an award for acting.

Another highlight of the Emmy Awards night was the reunion of the cast of 9 to 5.  Dolly Parton was reunited with her cast from everyone’s favorite 1980’s comedy classic. She seemed uncomfortable when sandwiched between Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin as they ridiculed Donald Trump – however their reunion was indeed visually pleasing for everyone during the Emmys.

Dolly states that “I know all about the support. If it hadnt been for good support, shock, and awe here would be sloppy and droopy”.

The 69th Primetime Emmy Awards was agreeably a pleasant night in which many occured successful, going home with more than one award in their hands. Our favorite celebrities attended and we celebrated with them as they rejoiced in their wins. One can definitely agree that this Emmy Awards night has to be one for the books!
