As Pitman students stumble upon the season of fall, a variety of sports begin within our school, water polo being one of them.

The most recent scrimmage for JV resulted in a win for both the boys and girls teams, with the boys scoring 14-3, and the girls leading 8-3. The most recent varsity games ended with the girls team winning 14-4, while the boys, sadly, lost 3-12.

Pitman’s polo players this year are excited and confident in their team, admitting that even if they aren’t winning every game, they are still proud to be apart of the team.

“I know for a fact that our team will dominate this season, and even if we lose a game by the points on the scoreboard, we will have won with heart because we will know we’re walking away as the team that worked harder,” said Grady Lanser, the goalie for the JV boys polo team.

Joelle Lok, an all around player for the JV girls polo team, also gave insight on how she predicts her season is going to be, “The JV girls team has a lot of potential. We have a great coach, who is very knowledgeable about the sport. We, as a team, also have great camaraderie. We’re not just a team, we’re a family.”

The companionship and positive attitude amongst the polo teams are sure to result in a great season for the players.

Last season’s outcome wasn’t the absolute best for Pitman polo’s varsity team. With 10 wins and 19 losses, the players this year are surely determined to make a comeback.

When asked who they believe their biggest competition is, all participants answered Turlock High School. The town rivalry calls for strong competition between schools with every sport. So it’s no surprise Pitman’s polo teams feel the same way.

Last year Turlock High varsity won 12 games, while our Pitman Pride varsity won 8. For JV’s former season, Pitman won 7 games and Turlock won 5.

Everyday after school the teams are hard at work, practicing for hours in Pitman’s pool, with their experienced coaches mentoring them to do their best.

All in all, Pitman’s polo teams have great coaches, amazing companionship, and devoted players, who will proudly win or lose, together, as a team.
