On October 5, 2017, Pitman High School Choirs held their first concert of the season at the Black Box Theatre on Pitman Campus. The concert, Pride Cafe, included performances from Pitman’s Madrigals, Concert Choir, and sixteen other individuals in small groups.

At the Pride Cafe concert, Pitman’s choir featured a large number of talented students who performed music from a wide variety of genres; such as pop, musical theatre, classical, and jazz. It was a great way to affirm one another in a family-like atmosphere, and everyone had fun!

Choir class has been working diligently on a variety of choral pieces. Every piece contains meaningful texts, and the students are encouraged to put their emotions when performing. “Don’t play the notes, play the meaning of the note”  reads a poster in their room.

In addition to rehearsing performance skills and interpretation, students have been learning how to read music notes and explore their vocal ranges. Mr. Partan has been working hard on preparing them for the upcoming concerts in October and December.

“Everyday we make progress and we get better. I hear you sing everyday, and you sound better each day!” exclaimed Mr. Partan to the choir class.

Mr.Partan is the choir and guitar teacher at Pitman High School. He has been teaching at Pitman for two years now. He is very talented and plays several instruments. He is also very dedicated to his job as a choir teacher and helps them in anyway possible.

Mr. Partan hopes as a teacher  to motivate them to be their best. “I want to teach them to work really hard and achieve something they did not think was possible. I think music is a great tool to do that. I try to show it by letting them know what hard work feels like and challenge them, and we do that practicing over and over until we get the melody right.”

Pitman’s choir class would be thrilled to see anyone in the audience for the upcoming winter concert on December 5th, 2017 at 7:30 pm, at Turlock Covenant Church.
