Ms. Mohini: The New Culinary Arts Teacher at Pitman

Once I walked into Culinary Arts class, I knew I walked into a class that was brimming with potential. Every student in that class was working dedicatedly on the cooking assignment they were given.

Ms. Mohini Singh, or just Ms. Mohini to her students, is the new cooking teacher at Pitman High School. She also works at Bistro 234, a fine dining restaurant in Downtown Turlock, where she is their pastry and creative chef.

When she saw the position at Pitman open, she exclaimed, “I was thrilled because I love food and I love to teach about food!”

Ms. Mohini has been in the food industry for ten years now. She comes from a chef background and before applying for this job she was thinking about working as a counselor because she has a Masters in education with concentration in counseling.

Ms. Mohini hopes for her students to have as many hands-on opportunities as possible by teaching them how to cook food, serve food, and be excited about it. As a class she hopes to be able to share the food with administration and teachers so they can take pride in what their students are working on.

Ms. Mohini’s class goal is for the students to feel that they have a sense of pride on what they are doing.

This year’s students will be exposed to food and the culinary world as much as possible this year. Another goal she has set is to prepare her students for the annual food competition against Turlock High and she hopes for her students to take home this year’s trophy.

A majority of people at Pitman High School including staff, students, and administration do not know about this class’s bold steps in trying to integrate into the pride. As a school, we should be aware of what is going on around Pitman’s campus. Culinary Arts, Journalism, and Art are all prime examples of overlooked, amazing organizations trying to make an impact on the lives of the Pitman student body.

Culinary Arts is an amazing class to learn all about the food industry, culture behind the dishes prepared, and where it came from. The food they make in the class is also shared with other students and administration who want to try it. Ms. Mohini is a great teacher and she will guide anyone who aspires to learn the art of cooking down the path of being a great chef and student by giving them confidence in their work and pride in what they make.
