Netflix is one of the most popular entertainment companies for watching TV shows and movies. Millions of people throughout the world use this platform for all of their film-streaming needs, making Netflix one of the the most profitable movie watching application on the market.

Two years ago, Netflix raised their prices from $8.99 to $9.99, and this year they raised their standard tier price from $9.99 to $10.99. The premium tier will go from $11.99 to $13.99. These prices won’t change for the people that have Netflix already until their monthly plan is over, only charging them when it’s the end of the month.

Netflix sales may go down if there aren’t any new shows added, as well as more episodes to other shows that are already able to be streamed. A few people at Pitman High School said a few words about their opinion on the price change.

Sydney (9th) said, “I will probably continue to have Netflix if they keep adding the shows I like and add new shows, but if the price goes up again soon, I probably won’t continue to pay for this program.”

Two other students that were asked if they would continue to pay for Netflix agreed with Sydney’s perspective. However, there were others with the complete opposite opinion and decided to get rid of Netflix after the price increase. Victoria Spears (9th) said, “At this point it’s not even worth it, there aren’t a lot of new shows being added and the ones that are, are cheesy ones made by Netflix. If new shows and movies that have come out recently were added, I might change that decision, but for now, it’s just not worth it.”

Some new shows and movies that are coming onto Netflix this November are: The Punisher, Mudbound, Casper, The Men in Black, The Pursuit of Happiness, Scary Movie, Oculus, among others. Although some of these films are fan favorites, there are also a number of popular movies and shows that are getting bumped off of Netflix. This included favorites such as The Matrix, Twilight, How I Met Your Mother, Titanic, Family Guy (seasons 9-14), and many more.

All of the popular movies and shows being removed from Netflix may cause customers to think paying the extra dollar a month isn’t worth it. On the other hand, some people might agree that with the fresh new shows that are being added, the extra dollar is well worth it.
