From the students in the Pit Crew to all of the Homecoming nominees, everyone looked like royalty at the annual Pitman Homecoming football game. Maybe it was all the beautiful dresses or the cold weather, but the energy was particularly high during this game. The stands were packed and the Pit Crew was extra loud.

The highlight of the game, as it always is, was the halftime performance. Not only did the band and color guard do amazing as usual, but the Varsity cheerleaders, who were joined by the JV cheerleaders, were also on top of their game and the crowd was cheering loudly for all of them.

Among the Varsity Cheerleaders were two of the eight beautiful female nominees, Emily Graves and Mariah Burciaga. The six other female nominees were Lauryn Sims, Gayle Arce, Grace Willming, Kassidy Santos, Bianca Garcia, and Jolee Sylvester. The male nominees were Keoni Souza, Sonny Uppal, TJ Sullivan, Ronnie Rodin, Robert Boster, Nathan Day, Hector Yerena, and Alex Baker.

After the performance from the Band, Color Guard, and the Varsity and JV Cheerleaders, the Homecoming Ceremony had begun. The nominees walked down the football field, escorted by their families/friends. It was apparent that win or lose, the escorts were extremely proud of their children.

The 2017 Homecoming Prince and Princess were Hector Yerena and Gayle Arce. Finally the 2017 King and Queen were crowned and it was Keoni Souza and Emily Graves.

Pitman Marching Band Student Imelda Rashidian (11th) said, “I always have a lot of fun at football games, I enjoy performing during halftime and just sitting and playing  with band in general. I especially enjoyed this football game because I liked seeing all the Homecoming nominees dressed up and get crowned.”

Although El Cap High’s football team fought up a good fight till the very end, Pitman High’s football team managed to conclude the game with a big victory of 50-21 and the crowd went wild!

The night was very exciting for Pitman High, with great nominees and outstanding spirit, the Homecoming game is a tradition that everyone even beyond the walls of Pitman look forward to.
