One of the best weeks during the Pitman High School year, is homecoming week. With dress up days, royalty, football, and rallies, it is understandable why kids get so excited for it.

The biggest day of homecoming week is Friday, when the king and queen are revealed, along with the big game. But to start it all off, Pitman High holds a rally to get everyone excited.

This years rally consisted of games, introductions, dancing, and more.

The nominees for homecoming royalty escorted one another, looking dazzling in their suits and dresses. The 16 nominees took a quick picture before heading up onto a stage to sit and watch the rest of the eventful rally.

Helping to hype up the crowd, Mr. Walls led the chant that has become a tradition at Pitman High School. He yells, “Eyes,” and the stands respond with two claps and our motto, “roll pride!” He also recognized numerous athletes from various sports like; water polo, cross country, golf, etc.

Getting the crowd involved, the lights were turned off and flashlights were turned on. A group of kids ran around the gym with a sign that cheered on the students to be loud, which they were.

A performance from the Pitman High cheerleaders really got the students feeling spirited. Along with music played by the amazing band.

Some laughable moments really brought an entertaining aspect to the rally. A dance off, between students of all grade levels broke out, with old school songs and modern day music aiding the kids to amusingly dance.

This event was obviously a crowd favorite, “My favorite part about the rally, was when they had the dance off…because it was just fun to watch everyone dancing,” said Stephanie Nuñez Cortez, a Freshman at Pitman High School.

Following in the silly footsteps, a handful of students from each grade level played a game where they all held hands and slid in between one another’s legs. The falling and fast pace of the game made for a hilarious sight.

All of these events, and even more, are loved by Pitman High School. It brings the school together and fills our heart with pride.

Stephanie also commented on how this rally compared to rallies she experienced in Junior High, “This rally felt a little more important and mature because we were actually celebrating something instead of just having a random rally.”

She also added, “I think this rally was really fun, but if i could suggest something to make future rallies better, I would like to see the crowd getting more involved. Also, i noticed a lot of the kids who went up to play the games, were almost all in current sports, so maybe choosing more random kids so everyone feels included would be interesting.”

Rallies hold a special place in Pitman’s heart, along with Homecoming, so a Homecoming rally is definitely a tradition that students hope will live on years to come.
