Why Extracurriculars Can Improve Your High School Experience

Why Extracurriculars Can Improve Your High School Experience

Many students are constantly stressing about a test or two they have on a certain day, or a paper that they forgot to do. Constantly stressing is not what a high school experience should be about.

Instead, high school is supposed to be about making memories and being involved with school and with friends. There are many ways that a student can be involved in school, and have fun at the same time.
Extracurricular activities are not just playing sports or being a part of ASB; it also includes clubs. There are many different types of clubs at Pitman High School to be a part of, ranging from community-benefitting clubs such as PHAST and Key Club, to fun and recreational clubs such as Game Club and Art Club, to even culture-based clubs such as HYLC (Hispanic Youth Leadership Club) and BSU (Black Student Union.)

Clubs are not only a fun way to use your time, but they are also an excellent way to make new friends. Although some students may think that clubs are a place where you only appear involved, you truly can use clubs to create new memories with friends that otherwise, you might’ve not been able to.
Even though there are a lot of clubs, there are also a lot of sports to be involved with at Pitman High School. Some of the fall sports are Cross Country, Football, Girls Golf, Girl’s  Tennis, Volleyball, and Water Polo. The winter sports are Basketball, Wrestling, and Soccer, and the spring sports are Baseball, Boy’s Aquatics, Boy’s Golf, Boy’s Tennis, Softball, Track and Field, and Girl’s Aquatics.

9th grader Isadora Zamora, said, “Being involved with school sports are a very good way to get exercise, but they are also a great way to be involved with the school.”
High school is all about making memories and having a fun experience, so be involved in activities if you have a chance. Pitman High School has many great opportunities – not just to get involved, but to also meet new people.

Making friends can be hard in high school because of all the cliques that are already formed, and from all the friendships who have been around for a long time. However, being in extracurricular activities gives you the chance to bond with many new people that share the same interests with you. Not only do you bond with the other people but you also learn to work as a team, or group, which builds great teamwork.
