One of the great ways to spread artists’ masterpieces is to present them in an art show. From October 23rd to October 27th during lunch, Pitman hosted an Art Show in the lobby of the Pitman’s Blackbox Theatre. Students’ artwork, such as drawings, and paintings, are presented for all other Pitman students to see and admire their artwork. This is an amazing way to support students and encourage them to continue doing their art and continue doing what they love.

Art is a way to spread people’s emotions and opinions on what they feel about the world. An  official definition would be “the expression or application of human creative skills or imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty and emotional power.” Yet art can be defined in many ways. I talked with one of the students whose art was presented in the art show, Aileen Cortez.

Nicole: Do you have a favorite artist or a favorite painting?

Aileen: Like out of everyone, or just here?

Nicole: Out of everyone. What art piece do you love the most?

Aileen: I honestly don’t have a favorite one, most of the things I consider my favorite art piece is fanart. Yeah, (laughs a little), I don’t really have a favorite artist or painting.

Nicole: Now what does art mean to you?

Aileen: Basically what art means to me is something you can create from your creativity or your mind. I mean art’s not something when someone tells you draw this and make art out of it. You know you draw them and that’s not really art, I mean someone told you to do it so you did it, it’s more of a… I don’t really know what you might call it.

Nicole: Out of your own inspiration… or something.

Aileen: Yeah out of your inspiration, like someone says here, do something with this apple and you create something random with this apple that.. that’s art.

Nicole: I like that answer.

There were many fantastic masterpieces that were shown in the lobby. Not just drawings or paintings, but the projects that the 3D art students created were set up as well. It was obvious these students worked really hard on their art projects and put a lot of effort into them, and it is great of them to let us view them in the art show. Each of their art pieces show what the artists like, see and feel about a certain topic in the world. Truly, Pitman is filled with such artistic students.
