The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is an annual music and arts festival that is held at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California. It was founded in 1999 by Paul Tollett and Rick Van Santen and has been a yearly tradition since. Up until 2012, the festival only lasted one weekend and since then it lasts two weekends. Coachella showcases popular and established musical artists, as well as emerging artists and reunited groups of all genres such as; rock, indie, hip-hop, and electro dance. Coachella is one of the largest, most famous, and most profitable music festivals in the United States and all over the world.

This year, Coachella took place from April 13, 2018 to April 22, 2018. The lineup for 2018 includes well known artists such as; Tyler the Creator, Migos, Post Malone, Cardi B, and blackbear. With these artists and The Weeknd, Beyonce, and Eminem as the openers, there is no way that the 2018 Coachella will be anything but amazing. However, it was rumored that there were 40,000 extra attendees than anticipated and with that, the 2018 Coachella was more congested than ever.

The first headliner at the 2018 Coachella was The Weeknd. He is an ideal opener due to his domination of mainstream hip hop and R&B. The Weeknd took the stage solo with a backing band for a set that featured no guests, outfit changes or tricks which gave his performance an organic vibe. In his final set, The Weeknd gives a performance of a ballad “Call Out My Name” from his newly released mini album “My Dear Melancholy” which made fans tear up a little.

As far as headlining goes, it is pretty obvious that Beyonce hit a home run as the event was briefly named “Beychella,” after her performances. Beyonce ended things with a Destiny’s Child reunion as well as two of her popular songs, “Single Ladies” and “Love on Top.” Undoubtedly, Beyonce’s performances will set a high bar for future Coachella headliners.

The final headliner at the 2018 Coachella was Eminem. This was extremely exciting because it is very rare to see Eminem on a live stage like that, let alone at a music festival. He ended his set by dedicating his final songs, including Lose Yourself, to anyone who’s ever struggled and announced that it was the 10th anniversary of his sobriety.

From the sounds of it, the 2018 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival was one for the books. From the amazing artists to the extraordinary art to the yummy food, it sounds like this was the best Coachella yet!
