Recently on the 7th of April 2018, in Syria there was an alleged chemical attack by the syrian military on a rebel controlled suburb in the city of Douma. There is a reported number of seventy deaths and over five hundred injured. The chemical weapons used on the rebels as well as civilians were chlorine gas and sarin nerve agent. The people targeted were the rebel soldiers of the group, جيش الإسلام‎,(Army of Islam).

There have been videos of the aftermath, showing men, women, and children under medical attention as well as the victims who did not survive. However, Russian Foreign Ministry believes that the video of people dying and in panic was staged. There was even an interview with a ‘victim’,in which the child claims it was staged and that they were given food and drinks for taking part in the filming.

Fake or not fake; the US, France, and the UK, launched a total of 105 Precision missile strikes that targeted three Syrian chemical weapons facilities: a scientific research center near Damascus, a chemical weapons storage facility west of Homs and a storage facility and command post near Homs. These strikes caused major backlash from syrian supporters and tensions in the middle east have gone up much higher than they were before.

Russian President, Vladimir Putin, claimed the strikes were “an act of aggression against a sovereign state that is on the frontline in the fight against terrorism was committed without a mandate from the UN Security Council and in violation of the UN Charter and norms and principles of international law.”

With more aggression between the West and the East begins to rise. The question might be ‘are we on the verge of World War 3’ is on many people’s minds. If this conflict does lead to that, we can only hope that an all out nuclear war isn’t the end of humanity.
