Tim Bergling, otherwise known as Avicii, died on April 20, 2018, at the age of 28. Bergling had been suffering from many health problems such as acute pancreatitis, which is caused by heavy drinking. The Swedish musician then underwent a surgery that had his gallbladder and appendix removed. This lead to many other problems that may have led to what authorities believe was a suicide.

At the age of 16, Tim Bergling began his career, where he would post the music that he made online. Shortly after, he signed his first deal with a record label. In 2011, he created a single, called “Levels,” which many believe contributed to his international breakthrough. Over the next few years, he created much more popular music, including “Wake Me Up.” His songs “Sunshine” and “Levels” even got him nominated for the Grammy Awards.

As he, along with his music, became increasingly publicized and famous, several factors were going on behind the scenes and in his personal life. As previously stated, Bergling had a number of health issues that most likely added unwanted stress on him. In the wake of his passing, his family released an open letter stating that Bergling “really struggled with thoughts about meaning, life, happiness. He could not go on any longer. He wanted to find peace.” So, with him juggling his career, his health, and his mental struggles, he may have cracked under the pressure.

It was also stated by his family that they had been worried about his state of mind during the last few hours that he was alive. One of Bergling’s family members got a troubling phone call from him just hours before the tragic event happened. As soon as the family got the call they knew that they had to do something fast. The family member got on a plane as soon as he could and flew to Oman, but unfortunately he was too late and just hours before, the DJ and producer had taken his life. According to the police, the cause of death was blood loss from a self inflicted wound by broken glass.

While it is said that he was feeling down and had given up, he also had a very hectic schedule with more than 800 gigs in eight years. A friend of his said in an interview, ”To him there is no party. He comes to the clubs and plays for two hours and flies to the next place.” To add to this stress, his busy tour schedule did not allow for much time with family. Avicii even warned his management several times that if he kept up with this crazy schedule, he would die. Unfortunately, they must not have taken it too seriously.
