On April 25th, the new Harry Potter game, Hogwarts Mystery, was released on mobile in the app store. Millions of people, specifically Harry Potter fans were excited when the game launched.

This RPG game follows the story of your avatar, which you get to create in the beginning of the game. In the game, you learn your character’s brother is a former student of Hogwarts. After being expelled from Hogwarts for breaking the rules and suspicions of working with Voldemort, your brother went missing and has not been seen. It’s up to you to find out what has happened to your brother. Along with this interesting mystery, you will attend classes and learn spells, creating potions, and learn how to fly. Yes, fellow Harry Potter lovers will finally get to play Quidditch!

So far the game has been pretty entertaining and fun. However, one flaw I would say and what most players complain the most about is the four minute wait for energy to be restored. With each energy point you use, you have to wait 4 minutes just for one energy point to be restored. It can be really irritating, especially during the middle of a lesson. The game will provide opportunities to restore your energy. If you have enough diamonds, you can buy more energy. And if you look around the different floors of the castle. You can tap the paintings, a stick found outside the castle, torches, and Dobby for more energy points. The game will test your patience and might even tempt you to pay real money for more energy, but it’s not worth it.

I have talked with our Harry Potter fanatic Mrs. Insell about the game. She states what she loves most about the game is “the different options to choose from when they ask me a question, which helps me figure out who I am.” She also states, “It really brings me into the story.” Throughout the game, your character is asked and challenged on a variety of questions for you to answer. Most can be answered with your opinion. Other questions like during class, tests your knowledge of the Harry Potter world. During a duel, your knowledge of how to attack your opponent is tested, and you must choose wisely if you want to win. Mrs. Insell however does not like waiting 4 minutes just for energy to restore, which was pointed out earlier. She doesn’t like “how my energy goes away too quickly.” This has become a major complaint about the game and could also be an improvement, as Ms. Insell thinks it could be.

Now everyone knows Snape and how quite mean he can be. Watch out for him! His character dislikes your character because of your brother’s reputation. And if he sees your character do something he doesn’t approve of like unauthorized dueling, he will take away a large amount of points from your house. “Snape is always taking points away from me, he took like 40 points away from me!” Mrs. Insell adds another one of her complaints about the game. Overall, she enjoys playing the game and enjoying the opportunity to attend the magical school of Hogwarts.
