On may 4th, 2018 a historical event will be held at Surf Ranch in Lemoore California. This event will be the first ever WSL (World Surf League) Founders Cup Competition. Twenty five of the best surfers will come from all around the world to compete. There are five teams of with five surfers on each team. The five surfers will compete to have the best score to represent their country. Teams will come from Australia, Brazil, Europe (France, Portugal, Italy, and Germany), the United States, and the world team which includes the best surfers from polynesia, japan, south africa, and australia.

The competition will solely be based upon the skill of each surfer and their ability to stay up. This is able to happen because of the man made wave. Each wave made will be the exact same, every drop of water will be in the same place at the same time. This wave will help the judges of the founders cup judge the surfer. There won’t be any bad waves or so called good waves, each wave will be perfect therefore making it as fair as possible.

The perfect wave took all trial and error until it was right, it took many years to build the wave. This wave feels and looks like real wave that you’d find in the ocean but isn’t. The wave is created by a system that give the water a perfect push to give the right amount of force a wave needs. The process to create this wave took almost ten years for Kelly Slater and the World Surf League to work together to make the Surf Ranch happen.

The first ever Founders Cup will show exactly what each professional surfer can accomplish. All surfers were picked based on their rank in their competitions as well as experience. The surfers will be given many chances to redeem themselves over the three days that the competition will be going on. Since this is the very first founders cup, nobody will know what to expect throughout the weekend.
