October Students of the Month

Yesterday, October 1, 2019, four Pitman students were honored at the Rotary Club of Turlock with a special lunch for having been chosen as a Student of the Month and received a Character Award.  Nathalie Hernandez (12th), Maryam Aslianali Abady (10th), Joaquin Peral (12th) and Simon Striplin (11th) were the recipients.

Each month students can be nominated by staff members to be the Student of the Month and receive a Character Award based on each demonstrating a certain character trait.  October highlighted the character traits of Achiever and Empathy.  These four students were each nominated by a Pitman staff member who noticed his/her exhibiting one or both of the character traits.

After nomination the student of the month committee meets to discuss each nominated student; then additional teachers and staff members are contacted to get their input on the nomination; finally, a student from the sophomore, junior, and senior classes is chosen.

While students ate their lunches – hamburgers, fruit, chips, and cookies – several adults spoke kind words of encouragement and appreciation for the hard work these students are putting into their studies.  In addition, the honored students spoke one at a time giving their name, favorite subject, and sharing their plans after high school.

Keep up the great work!
