Highlighting Pitman Clubs

March 5, 2020
Every school has something to offer when it comes to joining new clubs. Whether it is in academics, sports, friendships with classmates, community service, or learning. Clubs are a fun and safe space where students get together to enhance their skills or just have a fun time. There are plenty of clubs for everyone here on campus.
After reaching out to a couple of teachers and club advisors they decided to give us a few details on their clubs: Creative Cove, First Priority, and HAART.
Creative Cove is the perfect club for many creative and fun individuals to join. The club is led by Mr. Partan, the Choir Director at Pitman High School, and is a relatively new club that has joined our campus. You may ask what is Creative Cove? Mr. Partan gave us more insight into what the club is all about.
Creative Cove is a group of students who are interested in the artistic processes of creating music, art, poems, etc. The students meet bi-weekly on Friday in C101. Mr. Parton mentioned, “We write and share our songs, poems, and art. Not everyone in the club has to be the creator. You can be a spectator and still contribute to the creative process when it comes to performing and visual arts.”
If you’re a creative individual and would love to join a new club this year or next year I’d highly recommend joining Creative Cove.
First Priority is another club on campus led by the AP European History teacher and psychology teacher, Mr. Searway. First Priority meets every Tuesday in room H121 during lunch. He states,” First Priority is a Christian based club that desires to help Christians grow in their faith and allows students the opportunity to learn how God can impact their lives.”
Mr. Searway goes on to say, “We operate on a four-week schedule that includes discussion, a guest speaker, and on week four a student shares their faith. Since the club just started last year, the main focus is Tuesdays and therefore we have not done outside activities like some clubs do.”
First Priority had a theme this year and it is based on what the club’s focus is going to be during the year. “This year the theme is Conversation. Topics include conversations with God, your friends, peers, family and even the world,” explained Mr. Searway.
You should know that all students are welcome. Mr. Searway explains “Anyone can join at any time. Memberships are not really a big issue. Yes, there is a core group but it’s completely different from last year and everyone is invited to come weekly.”
Another club that has recently made its way to Pitman is HARRT Club. Kennedy Moore, a club member of HARRT Club, gives us more insight into the club. HARRT stands for Healthy and Responsible Relationships Troop. The HARRT club meets after school every Tuesday usually until 4:30.
Kennedy Moore explains, “Our message is to promote healthy relationships and provide resources for those who need help getting out of unsafe relationships. The club teaches students about different types of abuse and how to be a good partner.”
HARRT Club is meant for anyone to join regardless of what you have been through. Moore states, “Anyone can benefit from participating in our club, regardless of who you are or what you have experienced. Everyone deserves to have knowledge as well as resources about domestic violence.”
Any one of these clubs would be amazing to join since each one benefits you in a different way. Whether it’s by creating something new or learning about heavy subjects, you will definitely get something beneficial out of them.
