Chlorophyll is a green pigment that is found in plants. It is essential in photosynthesis and allows plants to absorb energy from the light while coming in many different forms. People often take Chlorophyll supplements as it can be very beneficial for one’s health. According to the Very Well Health website, some of the benefits of Chlorophyll include antioxidants, increased energy, weight loss, and wound healing. Chlorophyll isn’t considered medication and is accessible online and at most convenience stores to everyone that wishes to buy it.

Although there are many benefits to taking chlorophyll, overusing it is not healthy and could possibly lead to negative side effects. Some recorded side effects have been: Nausea, diarrhea, and vomiting. If you decide to take chlorophyll, it is best to use it in moderation to prevent yourself from experiencing these negative side effects. Not everybody is a fan of chlorophyll and in that case, eating regular vegetables may be a better alternative to still receiving the same benefits that chlorophyll has to offer. According to the Very Well Health website, some chlorophyll rich vegetables include: Parsley, arugula, wheatgrass, seaweed, spirulina, spinach, collard greens, broccoli, and asparagus. These vegetables are a cheaper alternative to taking chlorophyll and do just as good. You can also get really creative with the vegetables you cook. After interviewing local Turlock resident, Sydney Carson, I asked the question: “Would you prefer taking chlorophyll or eating vegetables to get your necessary vitamins?” Carson responded with, “Both I think are very important and Chlorophyll is easy to take because it does not taste bad like vegetables can sometimes taste. It is also easier to take because you could just take one supplement or put a few drops in your water. Although, vegetables can be a lot cheaper than chlorophyll, they are more natural and I feel like they would have more vitamins so I would rather pick vegetables over chlorophyll.” Different people feel differently about how they wish to consume their vitamins but whichever way you choose is still a great option.

Eating regular vegetables are just as beneficial as taking chlorophyll and It is ultimately your choice on which one to choose. Either way, they are both important sources of nutrients which will improve your health. Next time you stop at the store, check out chlorophyll and decide which is right for you.
