Red Moon In Venus Review

Red Moon In Venus Review

Kali Uchis released the album Red Moon In Venus on Mar 3, 2023, making it her fourth album. She is an R&B artist known for having songs in both English and Spanish. Her music has a very unique sound specific to her, making her recognizable in every song she’s in. Her voice is very angelic and her music always has an ethereal background to match her voice and the message she puts out.

The first track on the album, “In My Garden…” is a short introduction to the album being only twenty five seconds long to set the tone of the album leading us into the first full song “I Wish you Roses.” The line “just know any love I gave you’s forever yours to keep,” represents her main message of accepting bad experiences with people and wishing them well despite what may have happened in the past. This song understands the idea that you don’t have to be in someone’s life to still wish them the best, even if you’re not a part of it.

The next few tracks transition into love songs, starting with “Worth the Wait” featuring her first guest artist on the album, Omar Apollo. This song talks about hesitation towards love and waiting for the right moment leading into the next tracks “Love Between…” and “All Mine” which fully embrace love.

Next on the album, we start to pick up speed with the song “Fantasy (feat. Don Toliver).” This song brings up the energy of the album before going into her Spanish songs “Como Te Quiero Yo” and “Hasta Cuando.” These songs go into struggles of others holding onto past issues while you’re ready to leave it in the past before going into another feel good song, “Endlessly.”

“Moral Conscience” is Kali’s representation of karma, knowing your worth, and that your presence being gone from their life is enough. “Not Too Late (Interlude)” followed by “Blue” start to slow down and go into the struggles of a relationship and the heartbreak that comes with losing it, hoping you can get it back.

Kali introduces her third guest artist on the album, Summer Walker, continuing the theme of knowing your worth with the song “Deserve Me” before her most popular upbeat song on the album, “Moonlight.” This song was released as a single before the album came out and did most of the promotion for it. Her music video quickly went viral and the song took a place on the top charts. She closes the album with one last feel good song, “Happy Now.”

Interview questions:

“What do you like about Kali Uchis compared to other artists?”

“What’s your favorite song on the album?”

I asked Ava Sandoval and Mia Montijo their thoughts on the album, here’s what they had to say.

“I really like how unique her voice is. It’s really smooth and she has a wide vocal range that she uses especially in Sin Miedo with her lower notes. And as someone who grew up around both Spanish and English, I like how she switches between the two languages because I’m still not fluent in Spanish so I can understand and enjoy her music without being like ‘oh what does that mean?’ My favorite song from Red Moon in Venus is Moral Conscience because it sounds so dreamy and her voice sounds so pretty in that song.” – Mia Montijo

“I really like Kali’s music because I like that it’s in both Spanish and English and I love how the background music sounds, it matches the vibe of her voice really well. I also like her music a lot because of listening to it with my moms boyfriend and my favorite song on the album is Moonlight.” – Ava Sandoval
