When you google “What is a stereotype of a female?” one of the first things that pop up and I quote, “Gender stereotypes can be both positive and negative for example, “women are nurturing” or “women are weak”” Why is that the first thing that pops up about women? Even Googling, “stereotypes for women?” The thing that pops up is, “girls and women are generally expected to dress in typically feminine ways and be polite, accommodating, and nurturing. Men are generally expected to be strong, aggressive, and bold” I dislike that difference with a passion very much. Why are men expected to be strong, aggressive, and bold, while women have the expectation of being polite, weak, nurturing, and accommodating. We are so much more than nurturing, weak is offensive.

We as women have been fighting for our rights for so long, we are nowhere near weak. The first women’s rights convention was held in 1848. There were protests for 72 years before women were allowed to vote. Even then it was only allowed in certain states. To this day women are still allowed to vote, but we are still treated as weak. Like we cannot do what a man can do. Getting paid less than a man and getting treated like less than our worth.

For example the Barbie movie was such an impactful movie in 2023, it showed the beauty of womanhood and what we go through on a daily basis, how we are expected to be and act, all the time. It brought girlhood to another level, connecting women all across the world. Everyone showing up to enjoy the film while wearing pink, going to the theaters with their mothers, sisters and friends. It was beautiful. All of that joy and success the film brought just for it to only be dumbed down by a man as a film about “a plastic doll with big plastic boobies”. Jo Koy obviously did not watch the film, and thought it was funny as if the audience wasn’t awkwardly silent.

No one even really knew who Joy Koy was before his disgusting “jokes” were heard at the Golden Globes. Another example is how Taylor Swift has had one of the best years of her career yet, and the only thing he could make a joke about is how the NFL shows Taylor on screen too much, when in reality she is in less than one percent of the NFL screen time. It’s degrading that that was the only joke he could make about her. It was not her fault that she showed up to her loving boyfriends game and cameras went on her for a little while, she has no control over that. After the comment about her was made she took a sip of her drink, basically having no reaction, but yet her reaction is getting analyzed and criticized. While Ryan Gosling also had no reaction, a straight face but was getting praised for not laughing. How was her taking a sip of her drink “overreacting” but him also having a straight face admirable. To quote something Taylor once said, “a man is allowed to react. A woman can only overreact.” That is perfectly said for this scenario.
