Super Bowl Rundown

Super Bowl Rundown

The Super Bowl is one of the most exciting football games of the year, some like to joke it’s practically a national holiday! Family and friends come together to watch America’s favorite sport, football.

The Super Bowl began in January of 1957, and was originally called the AFL-NFL World Championship Game now just known as the NFL. This year the two teams who participated in the Super Bowl were the 49ers and the Chiefs. The Chiefs have played in 6 Super Bowls winning 4 of them. The 49ers have played in a total of 8 Super Bowls and won 5 of them.

There are always controversial topics and opinions that people have on either teams or players. This year’s controversial players on the Chiefs were Travis Kelcee and Patrick Mahomes. Many people were very upset with the appearance that Taylor Swift had as she was there supporting Travis Kelcee. Fans expressed that with her there he was less focused, and he didn’t play as well. Many people felt that she had too much screen time as it was a football game and not a concert.

On the contrary the fans of Taylor Swift or people who are agnostic to the topic see it as her bringing in more fans and attention to the sport itself. Many new fans who were introduced to football through Taylor Swift were upset that they were blaming her for the mistakes he made while playing.

Travis Kelcee also had some instances where people felt like he was disrespectful to his coach. For instance, during the Super Bowl, he got rough with his coach because he was upset with what was going on in the game, this upset lots of fans.

Many 49ers’ fans were disappointed and felt terribly for their quarterback, Brock Purdy. After being known as Mr. Irrelevant and being a third string quarterback, he filled in for the starting quarterback and brought them to the Super Bowl. When they lost the Super Bowl, the cameras were facing the losing team causing fans to feel even worse for the team as a whole.

Another reason people love the Super Bowl is the creative halftime shows. This year the main performer was Usher, joined by Alisha Keys and many more. Many fans were extremely excited for the Super Bowl halftime show. Although afterwards some fans were really disappointed because they were expecting more.

Here are some thoughts and opinions from some of the football fans at Pitman. One of the sophomores here at Pitman, Jovanni Rios, answered the question “What your thoughts on this year’s game,” by saying,

“I think that this year’s game was really close and could’ve gone either way, the Chiefs were just able to secure the game by making better plays more consistently.”

To conclude, the Super Bowl overall is an exciting event for many people whether you enjoy football or not, it is a great time to spend with family and friends.
