Pitman’s First Ever ‘Women in Leadership’ Event

Pitmans+First+Ever+Women+in+Leadership+Event

The women in leadership event will be on the 26th of March and it will take place in the Black Box of Pitman High School. It will be starting at Pride Time and after that will be a come-and-go style through lunch. The whole purpose of this campaign is about empowering women and allowing them to see their value. Showing them that they matter and that they’re capable of doing absolutely anything and everything. It doesn’t matter what background you come from but it shows that a woman can have determination and the will power to be capable of the impossible. An event like this also helps girls and women in high school to be inspired by the women who worked hard  and who were put down for having aspirations towards themselves.

An event like this allows one to reflect on their goals and what they have in mind for their future. Women in leadership have positive impacts on society and beat ¨male only¨ expectations. They can serve as role models and inspire other women to pursue leadership roles themselves. This helps break down gender stereotypes and contribute to greater gender equality in society.

There will be four women in leadership attending the event, with different life events and stories. The Empowered Women Panel will have a labor and delivery nurse, Ariana Jorstad, who works at Memorial Hospital in Modesto; Janae Marable who is the Executive Director for Higher Ground Audio Productions; Marilyn Diaz – a successful photography business owner – Marilyn Days Photography; and Mayra Lewis, a Police Officer at CSU Stanislaus.

Pitman High School’s Registrar, Madison Curtiss said, “We just want our girls to feel empowered and that all dreams are possible!”

People think the feminine approach to leadership is not a mere reflection of the masculine model anymore. It’s a distinctive way of leading, marked by inclusiveness, empathy, and collaboration. Despite these strengths, many women surely still feel the need to mimic male leadership styles to fit into the stereotypical mold. It is unfair to them to feel the need to meet society expectations. The low social understanding and negativity put on those who are able to do a variety of things or have many abilities have got to be completely gone as it affects one’s desires and goals.

The four women that will be attending each have different jobs and majors. It is exciting and interesting to think about someone who holds value and has worked hard for where they are in life currently. Being able to hear what they have gone through and how they achieved what they did is quite encouraging and makes many excited and looking forward to the day of the event.

Although I love meeting and seeing new people, the person I’m personally most excited to meet has to be the police officer; law enforcement grasps my interest!
