Upcoming Cheer Tryouts Information

Upcoming+Cheer+Tryouts+Information

The 2024 cheer season is coming quickly; cheer tryouts will be happening this year the week of April 15th. Before trying out you will need to grab a packet from the Activities Office. They will be available March 25th at the beginning of school and that evening at Freshman Orientation. Make sure to turn your packets in by the due date it requires to be able to try out.

Tryouts usually take place for four days, three of these days are practice days and the final day is the actual try out. The three practices are around an hour and a half long. On the final day you will meet at Pitman according to the time of your grade level tryout and the results will be posted on the Pitman Cheer Instagram page a few days later.

Some comments from the head coach and advisor Lynette Heinrichs are, “Pitman Cheer is committed to supporting Pitman athletics while encouraging school spirit. Interested candidates need to come with a positive attitude and willingness to work in a unified environment!”

Here is a preview to how tryouts run from a sophomore cheerleader, Alli Shubert, from the previous years: “During tryouts I felt like nobody was ever judging you and practice was fun because it allows you to learn new things and get to know new people. Lots of the upperclassmen are very helpful throughout the tryout process. Overall, being a part of cheer has taught me to maintain a positive attitude as well as help others and be more accepting of help. Cheer is a great experience because people are always encouraging you to do your best.”

To add to that, here are some thoughts from a sophomore from Pitman, Ava Khomari, who is interested in trying out.

“I wanted to try out for cheer because I feel like it would be a good way to get myself involved in the school community and to express my passion for dance with some of my friends who share the same passion. I found out about cheer from school events, rallies and football games and overall, I enjoyed seeing the team bonding and getting along with each other. Going into tryouts I feel very nervous but at the same time excited to be trying something very out there and I can’t wait for what comes out of it.”
