I want to help people better understand mental health and why it’s important to talk about it more openly. Mental health can affect someone’s life just in a click. Ignoring your feelings and thoughts can lead to problems with relationships, school, home, and work. That’s why it’s crucial to ask for help before it’s too late.
According to “The Importance of Mental Health” it says, “Untreated, mental illness can contribute to higher medical expenses, poorer performance at school and work, fewer employment opportunities and increased risk of suicide.”
Sometimes it’s hard or even awkward to share how you’re feeling with someone. Even if it’s a parent you have lived with for your whole life or a friend from school or work. It’s never easy sharing something you kept in secret for so long, or for something that you didn’t even know you needed help with.
It could start off as one of the emotions you’re feeling most of the time, then you can start by talking about maybe some of the thoughts in your head. This might sound silly now, but you will feel a weight lifted off your shoulders. Slowly you will maybe even want to vent to someone, not for them to lecture you, just to listen.
The most important thing is taking care of yourself. It’s not easy because you will feel like a simple job is so tiring. What helped me is writing a few tasks down to get done throughout the day. It takes a lot of time and practice to do this. It’s crucial to have patience with yourself.
What helps as well is having friends or family that you can talk to. It’s good for your health to go out with friends or go swimming. Anything active, and something that brings you a lot of joy.
Being social is also a part of taking care of yourself. It could be talking to people at school or work. It will connect you with others, and can provide comfort and support from the people you love.
