Club Rush is a Pitman Highschool event that allows students to learn more about clubs they are interested in, become more involved with their school, and gives new clubs a chance to gain new members and showcase their pursuits.
On Friday September 5th, Pitman hosted their Club Rush for the school year of 2025 during lunch in the quad. With over 50 clubs available at Pitman, there was a wide variety of cultural clubs, religious clubs, charity clubs, debating clubs, and entertainment clubs.
With a diverse selection of clubs, some of the most popular or well known clubs at Pitman are PHAST club, Kitchens for Change, Pitman HOSA Chapter, ASB, FBLA, FFA Chapter #512, and Letters to Santa club.
Many students may be wondering how these clubs are so well known, and why large numbers of students choose to join those clubs compared to others? One leading reason is college and job opportunities or applications.
Clubs that are mainly centered around charity work and frequently host community events and service, help students prepare for their future by developing leadership skills, problem-solving skills, communication skills, and showing responsibility and empathy towards their community which are all traits that are appealing to colleges and employers.
Students joining clubs in high school such as FBLA, FFA, and HOSA can support students’ future job applications by showing employers they have maintained an interest in their field of occupation or an extensive amount of time.
Not only can clubs prepare students for their future careers and education, they can also allow students to explore what they are interested in. Students can achieve this by joining multiple diverse clubs, and eventually dedicate themselves to a club that interests them or could possibly benefit them in the future.
Clubs that don’t offer education or benefit them in the future, may struggle with getting students to join their clubs. By sharing flyers, creating social media accounts, and giving out freebies to students, clubs are able to attract new students to their booths and to join their clubs.
Now, an interview from Victoria (Tori) White (12th) a club member of Letters To Santa. When asked why she decided to be one of the leaders of the Letters To Santa Club, White responded with, ¨ I am one of the leaders because I love giving back to the community, and helping people in need, people who are supporting this club are in need of Christmas during the holidays¨.
Another question for White was why she felt people should join this club? She responded with, ¨I think people should join this club to give back to the community. You can do community service and help families in need, they could get hoodies, clothes, pajamas and a bunch of things a lot of kids need¨.
Olivia Underwood (12th), a leader of the PHAST club was asked why she thinks students should join the PHAST club. Underwood replied, ¨I think people should join PHAST because it is very important to raise awareness of the troubles of doing nicotine and tobacco and we are able to get the opportunity to go to elementary schools and not only help our public speaking but also help them make better decisions¨.
Kyla Tran (11th), a leader of the Kitchens For Change, thinks students should join Kitchens For Change because, it’s a great way to help our community and you get to do it with your friends and it’s a great club to be in¨.
For students who joined clubs, which are helping clubs gain recognition and more members’ or for students who are gaining experience in a field they are interested in, overall it seems that Pitman’s 2025 Club Rush was a success for clubs and students.
