Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios is an annual and holiday themed event that goes from September to around late October. Most theme parks partake in this event with Disney even having “Halloween boujee nights”. Every year Universal studios decorates houses from famous or classic horror movies
Universal Studios transforms and decorates their theme parks from Orlando to Hollywood. What turned from one haunted house turned into a multitude of houses, with different levels of gore and different stories to follow through.
In 1991, Universal launched this Halloween Horror Nights idea, which was re-branded from Universal Studios Fright Nights. Universal Fright Nights had one house, no scare zone and multiple shows. Versus today, actors had to provide their own costume and makeup for their event. Another big difference was pricing. Tickets back then could go for 12.95 + TAX, versus in today’s world, tickets could go for 500$ depending on the package you choose.
In 2025, there are a multitude of houses to choose from. These houses are extremely creative and always evolving every year.

Next I interviewed a Junior, Yareli Rios about her thoughts on Halloween Horror Nights. First I asked, What are you most excited about?; To which she responded, “I’m excited for the Terrifier house because I haven’t watched the movie yet and it makes me excited to see what I could be in for”. Then I asked Yareli why she wanted to go? “ I want to go because I like horror related things and it’s also a bonding experience for my family and me”. This year prices have changed and gone up, I asked her, what does she think about the prices in 2025; she responded with, “Originally my family was gonna skip this year because it was too expensive and I don’t think that it’s right to be so expensive when it’s a bonding experience for, at least my family.”
Halloween Horror Nights have changed a lot since how it all began in 1991, even a crazy rename happened!! Do you think it should have stayed “Fright Nights”?
