Is tylenol really causing birth defects such as autism? Trump has reported over and over “Do not take tylenol FIGHT not to use it.” “Fight like hell not to take it.” Though there is little to no evidence when pregnant mothers use tylenol that they have any birth defects.
If you don’t know already, autism is a neurodevelopmental disability that causes people to have trouble with socializing; such as difficulty understanding and responding to social cues, trouble with eye contact and facial expressions, challenges maintaining and keeping conversations with others. Communication;such as delay or absence of spoken language, repetitive use of language or gestures, and difficulty understanding nonverbal communication. Restrictive behaviors is another issue when it comes to autism. Restrictive behaviors are intense or restricted interests, Insistence on routines, and not liking things to change, as well as sensory sensitivities.
Autism can have multiple possible causes, so who knows it may not just be tylenol. “It may be caused by either acetaminophen or vaccines” says President Trump, but after decades and decades of research it is nearly impossible that our annual vaccines have been found to be one of the many causes of autism.
My opinion is that I feel Trump has no right to say this if he does not have any proof. He shouldn’t say the information with empty receipts. This may cause people to feel afraid of getting vaccinated and this time around I believe it is VERY important that we all get our vaccines especially with everyone getting sick.
So why exactly are we saying that acetaminophen is causing autism without any evidence? It’s really silly. If anything a woman who takes tylenol while pregnant may be a bit weaker or poorer in health than a woman who doesn’t. Due to medical issues, that’s how a baby could get autism. It is highly unlikely that tylenol had caused the baby to get autism.
“There was a study on pregnant ladies in Sweden. The study led by Ahlqvist harnessed data on nearly 2.5 million children born in Sweden between 1995 and 2019 and — from the country’s extensive health records — data on acetaminophen prescriptions during pregnancy and on self-reported use collected by midwives, as well as whether children later received autism diagnoses. ”The study showed that around 1.42% of children exposed to acetaminophen during pregnancy were autistic, compared to 1.33% of children who were not exposed ─ a “very small” difference”, says Ahlqvist.
“Another large, high-quality study from Japan including 200,000+ children also using sibling comparisons and published this year found no link between acetaminophen use in pregnancy and autism.” they added on.
So overall what trump said is kind of nonsense, yes I understand he may have been looking out for some of the people. Then again, I think he was just trying to trick us into thinking tylenol is all no good and that if we use it, we will get autism. However he shouldn’t announce misleading information. I think before we hear anyone’s word of advice, we should do research into it even if we think the person really knows what they are talking about.
