Dana Dever (12th), Editor-in-Chief
My name is Dana Miracle Dever and I’m 17 years old in the 12th grade attending Pitman High School. Senior year already! I love to write, read, and create art. Over my years in high school I have grown and matured in ways I never saw coming. This realization and development has bloomed me into the bright young woman I am today. I have always had a huge passion for writing since I learned how to spell. Writing has always been my safe space; a quiet place where I could speak freely when the world felt too loud. When I entered foster care, I struggled with mental health battles like depression, anxiety, and a constant sense of misplacement. I felt alone, unheard, and overwhelmed. So I turned to my journal. Each entry became a conversation with myself, a way to process my pain and hold onto hope. Writing has helped me and has always been a great coping mechanism for me. I learned I can express myself through writing and use writing as a tool. I have written songs, and started writing books. With this said, I ardor every form of writing and enjoy writing all kinds of pieces that involve lyricism, journalism, noveling, poetry, etc. I find writing to be one of my happy places. My goal is to help others through writing my own experiences, even fiction, and to possibly be the key to someone else’s lock. Writing is more than a creative outlet for me; it’s a form of survival, connection, and empowerment. It has taught me that even in the darkest moments, our voices matter. I persevere to use my writing to uplift others and advocate for those who feel unseen.
