On Saturday, September 15, the Hughson Supercross invitational was held at HughsonHigh School. Pitman cross country along with other schools’ cross country teams were invited to run. Although some runners got confused and lost by the faded arrows on the dirt, Pitman cross country did a great job.
The frosh/soph girls ran first, and Jamie Stroup, Sophomore, was the first to finish from Pitman with the time 18:53. Frosh/soph boys ran after the girls. The first to finish from Pitman , with a time of 16:33 was Richard Turknett, Freshman. After the race frosh/soph races the varsity started. The girls ran first and the first to finish from Pitman was Jamie Ford, Senior, but she got second in the race and received a silver medal. Jamie got a time of 16:58. When the boys ran, the first to come from Pitman was Isaac Gonzalez, junior, with 13:54. After varsity, the junior varsity team ran. It was girls first, then boys. To finish first from the Pitman girls was Kayla Kenney, Junior, with the time of 20:31 and from the boys with the time of 17:04 was Arnold Rinario, Senior.
Some of the varsity girls received medals. The ones who did were, Jamie Ford, Elisiah Frank, and Ivette Salvador. One of the varsity girls couldn’t run in the race though because she had hurt her ankle.
The route everyone ran was 2.4 miles. The route included one loop around grass, two laps around the track, one starting the race and one ending it. After the first lap, the runners ran in an ankle-deep mud pit and continued on to the confusing route where they had to jump over a couple of hay bales, run over a small hill and get lost in a confusing route in the Hughson garden.
The Hughson Supercross was one of the fun meets for cross country. The next cross country meet is the Frogtown invitational at Calaveras county fairgrounds on Saturday 22. That meet is said to be the most difficult because of their hills.
