With four weeks of the NFL season in the books, there are a whopping seven hundred and thirty three penalties called by referees this season. It has been a great NFL season thus far. There are many significant statistics in the NFL through just three weeks. Some expected and unexpected things have happened so far.

First off, phenomena Odell Beckham Jr. achieved a personal record of one hundred catches. Beckham did it in fourteen games; which is the fastest in NFL history, eight games faster than the great Randy Moss. The Giants are off to a somewhat rough start but their wide receiver is continuing to shine. Odell Beckham clearly is the best young wide receiver in the league.

Thus far, Tom Brady leads the league in passing yards with an amazing one thousand-one hundred and twelve yards. Chris Ivory, the Jets running back, leads the league in rushing yards at the time of this article with 314 yards. Behind him is Adrian Peterson. Antonio Brown, the playmaking receiver from the Steelers, has the most receiving yards now with 478. He has always been fast and efficient.

Both offensively and defensively, this has been a great NFL season through just four weeks. The Patriots and Falcons appear to be the best offensive teams this year. The Patriots scored fifty one points against the Jaguars which is the highest amount of points scored by an NFL team this year. The Falcons not only have a good passing attack, they also have a good run game. They too, like the Patriots, have been blowing out their opponents.

As far as defensive stats, the sack leader thus far is Buccaneer Jacquies Smith, which is a bit of surprise. Last year Smith only had six and a half sacks. Now he already has four sacks. People these days expect J.J. Watt and Justin Houston to lead the league in sacks because they were the top two in sacks last year. Behind Smith’s four sacks, four other players are tied for second with three and a half sacks. Rashaad Jones, the Dolphins safety, leads the league in tackles with forty three, followed by Poslusnzy, Smith, Lee, and Ogletree. In interceptions, it is a five way tie between Brown, Darby, Harmon, Lowery, and Mathieu.

The best defensive teams so far seem to be the Bills and the Jets. They both have a great set of defensive lineman and linebackers, which are important when stopping the opposing team’s running game. The Jets, led by pro bowler Darelle Revis, have a great secondary and run defense.

The Panthers, Falcons, and Bengals are all surprise undefeated teams thus far. Last year all three of these teams weren’t as good as they are right now at all. The Panthers started 2014 2-2, the Falcons started 2-2, and the Bengals started 3-2.

It’s been a great season so far for NFL fans. Among the disappointments this year are the Chicago Bears. They are a one win team so far and they have been inconsistent. However, quarterback Jay Cutler is returning for them soon. The Saints are a winless team that have been struggling due to multiple injuries. Another team that has been struggling is the San Francisco 49ers. The Arizona Cardinals scored nearly fifty points against them.

With the first four weeks of football full of excitement and controversy, there’s no doubting that we will all look forward to the next twelve weeks of the regular season.
