Senior Year

Senior Year

Sara Mendes (12th), Reporter

Calling the class of 2020, our time in High School is coming to an end and most of us may be happy, but some of us may be nervous or sad that we’re graduating because we don’t know what we’ll do afterwards. I understand the nervousness of it because you may not know if you want to go to college or don’t know what you want to do for a career and I’m here to let you know that everything will be okay!!

Graduation, the one thing every High Schooler looks forward to during senior year. Everyone’s mind set is “okay let’s just get through this, it’ll all be worth it in the end.” But  other people’s mind set might be “oh no graduation, what am I going to do after this!” I’m the second one. I’m scared to graduate, but so far senior year isn’t bad. It’s not too hard, but it’s one of the most important years for grades. It’s important to always keep up with your grades at all times because if you have bad grades, you may not be eligible to do certain things.

I went to talk to another senior, Sierra Smith, here at Pitman and her thoughts on graduation and other things coming up in the last few months of senior year.

“I’m glad it’s almost over.  Senior year has had this weird vibe to it because I’m getting a sense of nostalgia. I don’t want to make my senior year emotional so that’s the weird sad vibe that isn’t typically discussed.”

“I’m nervous that I’m going to be late for graduation because I’m late for everything but excited I’ll be able to move on to better things and start the next chapter of life.”

“Hopefully I’ll be attending the Disneyland trip I just need to put the payments down. I’m very excited to go because I’ll be with my friends and this is my first time attending Disneyland.”

“My plans are to get accepted to the schools I’ve applied for and if that’s the case I’ll be attending college. I would like to become a social worker so I’ll be majoring in psychology.”

I agreed with what Sierra had to say. I’ve felt the same way about my year as a senior. Kind of sad, but also kind of happy and she’s right about it not being discussed a lot because teachers typically always think of graduation as a happy thing, which it is, but it’s also sad.

I also got Gio Aguirre’s opinion on senior year and how he was feeling about it coming to an end.

“ My senior year is and was very underwhelming. There have been many things that I wasn’t apart of due to the fact that I don’t like school events. There’s too much drama with high school in general.”

“I’m excited for graduation due to the fact that I’m extremely sick of the people and I’m just ready to get out of here.”

“Yes i’m excited for the trip because i know it is almost the last day of seeing my friends and making good memories with them.

“I’m not going to school. Instead I’m just going to work with my stepdad.”

What Gio had to say is very true in the case that there’s so much drama involved with High School and once you get out, things get better.

Whoever you are, specifically seniors, make the most out of the three months we have left. Have fun with friends, keep your grades up and class of 2020, let’s finish strong!
