Most animated family comedies use variations of the same scenario: the main characters have to go through many obstacles in pursuit of their goal of solving a certain problem, in all the old Goosebumps shows and books it always consisted of one main antagonist to defeat. But what if all the scary monsters came to life all at once?

This is a fun family movie that captivates people’s attention from the beginning to the end “Goosebumps” is the one to view. The stories follow child characters, who find themselves in scary situations, once started as books then soon turned into short films.

This modern version of R.L. Stine’s series is about young Zach Cooper (Dylan Minnette) who is not happy about moving from a large city to a small town, but soon finds a reason to stay when he meets his neighbor Hannah (Odeya Rush). The teen is surprised after finding out that Hannah’s weird father is R.L. Stine (Jack Black), the author of the best-selling “Goosebumps” series. Things take an unexpected turn when Zach unleashes the monsters from the extravagant tales. It’s up to Stine, his daughter, and Cooper to return the fictional characters back to where they belong.

“Goosebumps” is funny yet intense from the beginning to the end. The creators managed to put real life people with animated characters and make it all work together. They were able to work in characters from R.L Stines past books such as the giant praymantis from “Shocker on Shock Street” to a whole bunch of garden gnomes from “Revenge of the Lawn Gnomes.” Though the plot is rather predictable, watching “Goosebumps” is still compelling.

The characters that are most worthy in this movie are not R.L. Stine, Zach, or even Hannah, but the different monsters that came out throughout the movie. They are the creatures that Stine thought of and wrote about over the years. The movie definitely holds a level of authenticity, so much so that many people start remembering the books as they are watching the movie.

The graphics and animation are of high quality, all characters and objects are very detailed; it is noticeable that the designers and animators spent their $58 million dollar budget.

“Goosebumps” is a great movie for people of all ages, and attracts the crowds of people that have been reading his books over the years. This was overall a great movie, and one many people would enjoy.
