The 73rd annual Golden Globes, arguably one of the best shows of the award season, was a night of many historic moments full of laughter and controversy.

The award show aired on Sunday, January 10th, 2016. Comedian Ricky Gervais hosted the show for the fourth time.

The new movie, The Revenant, directed by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu and starring movie star, Leonardo Dicaprio, took home the most awards.  Dicaprio was awarded Best Actor in a Motion Picture: Drama. Inarritu was awarded Best Director in a Motion Picture: Drama, while the movie itself won Best Motion Picture: Drama.

Dicaprio and Kate Winslet had a reunion and heartfelt exchange of words at the show, being the famous movie couple of Jack and Rose in the blockbuster, Titanic.

Winslet herself won Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture for her role in Steve Jobs. The movie snatched the trophy for Best Screenplay.

Sylvester Stallone, who reprises his famous role as Rocky Balboa, won Best Supporting Actor for the movie Creed.

The Martian, starring actor Matt Damon, won Best Motion Picture: Comedy. Damon won Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy.

Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy was presented to Jennifer Lawrence for her movie, Joy.

Taraji P. Henson, the star of the hit drama, Empire, became the only 3rd Black woman to accept the award of Best Actress in a TV Drama.

“I’ve waited 20 years, you are going to have to wait,” she laughed when her 20 second acceptance speech timer went out on stage.

Best Drama was awarded to the TV series, Mr. Robot.

Lady Gaga took home a trophy for her guest star acting in the popular TV series, American Horror Story.

The hit animated film, Inside Out, by Pixar won Best Animated Feature Film.

Two-time Oscar Winning actor, Denzel Washington, received the Cecil B. DeMille award. The Cecil B. DeMille Award is an honorary Golden Globe Award bestowed by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for “outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment”.  He brought his whole family to the stage to accept his award. He became the third African American to receive this award. He thanked his parents and family and was “speechless” and thankful for the honor.
